The olive bit is characterized by a fixed ring. The sides should be positioned about one centimetre closer to the corners of the mouth compared to a loose ring bit. The olive bit prevents the corners of the mouth from being pinched by the rings. The horse cannot lift the bit with its tongue, so the mouthpiece stays calmer and is a bit more laterally stabilized. Since the ring doesn’t rotate, there is a slightly more direct action with a slight effect on the poll. However, the difference compared to a loose ring bit is barely noticeable to the horse or most riders. The double-jointed mouthpiece of level 2 distributes pressure more directly on the tongue and bars. The olive bit provides slight lateral stabilization and guidance, creating calmness and stability in the horse's mouth.
